Just As You Were

This is why I have NOT been posting.

Miami-based photographer Jipsy will celebrate the opening of her first solo show, Just As You Were, on Tuesday, March 8 at 7:00 pm at Butter Gallery. The exhibit will remain on view through April 2, free and open to the public by appointment. Just As You Were was curated from thousands of photographs taken by Jipsy herself from 2005 to the present.

As a photo journalist she has documented hundreds of events and nightclubs such as The District, PS 14, Pawn Shop, Space and Vagabond since arriving to Miami in 1996. For this her first photo exhibition, the now prominent figure in the Miami nightlife will fill the walls with local and international personalities (Patricia Fields, Alejandro Calvani, Aimme Phillips, Lara Coppola Estefan, Joey Arias, Ladyfag, Heatherette, Julliette Lewis, Santigold, Ave D, The Sounds, The Bravery) portrayed just as they were.

“When it comes to why I love documenting the night life I have to say it’s all about ‘the party’. The characters; the fashion; the music; the debauchery. There’s another side of Miami nightlife that the glossy magazines don’t always show. I gravitate to the people who dress up in their own style and are usually not in the VIP. Most of the time these are the people who stood on line, paid their entrance and came to dance without any intention of being in front of the camera. Add them to the mix of great music and a beautifully lit club, and its magic. I want to bring that feeling to the viewer.” says Jipsy.

Jipsy has been featured in countless publications including MIAMI Magazine, Ocean Drive, Miami New Times, The SunPost, WWD, Spin, Map, Black Book and Inked.

About the Butter Gallery:

Opening its doors in 2008, Butter Gallery has since brought everything from the overlooked to the sublime to the Miami art scene. Featuring premier South Florida artists and now encompassing international artists, Butter has brandished bold contemporary art ranging from the no-holds-barred graffiti stylings of Ahol Sniffs Glue to the digital

metamorphosis of Yuri Tuma. Under the aegis of artist and curator Francisco “Paco” De La Torre IV, Butter Gallery has revived the religious dichotomy of Rick Falcon and breathed life into the contemporary chaos of Tawnie Silva. Butter Gallery is located in the emerging Wynwood Arts District. www.buttergallery.com
