I don’t ask anymore why or care to think about what keeps me up, but here I am up and working at hours that should be spent on beauty sleep.

Anyways, here’s a famous quote I heard that really did a number on me:

Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is nonexistent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery — celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from — it’s where you take them to.”
—Jim Jarmusch, The Golden Rules of Filming

“NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE” OPENS
SoHo’s Tower Records is back! Sorta! Non-profit No Longer Empty, which specialize in using the city’s troubling abundance of vacant storefronts as pop-up art galleries, is making Tower’s former SoHo location into the site of multimedia exhibit “Never Can Say Goodbye.” Artists who incorporate sound, light, and images will have works on display, and panel discussions and live performances are scheduled over the next month. As an homage the concept of the record store as a community hub, the space has been re-imagined as Never Records, an operating store featuring cash registers and record bins. Browse for some new tunes at the show’s opening party tonight.

Former Tower Records space, Broadway and 4th St. 7-10 p.m. Through Feb. 13. Free.
