Monthly Archives: December 2008

It’s here. The end of another year. Personally I had decent one, being that I am alive and healthy, I have a job, I have a great partner and we have a nice home.

Out with the old and in with the new. And here I am again, facing a new year, with new projects, new people and new ideas. I started this year ending my run as the Girl About Town with Cooljunkie and I am starting the year, as if I never skipped a beat shooting nightlife for bigger and better including myself. The site has done really well this year, though I must admit, I have not published as much as I could/wanted to like WMC 2008. That will be going up right before WMC 2009.

Finally, to all the people who let me shoot them in their best and their worst, to the ones who hate me and love me, and to all of you who support me – thank you.

We are off to start the New Year Celebrations!

First stop: The Standard for Alissa Christine’s final shot for her ILoveMiami365.com project.

here she is shooting me this year…

dressing up just because! I’ve always had an issue with that. But it’s my issue and I will seek help. Ahh, found it. Hang out with the Fire and Icer’s. Also those old Poplifers and their wicked ways.

Here is a tiny video C did of the Miami Holiday Party:

amazing. Couldn’t take enough pictures, we were socializing and mixing it up.

::Danny Santiago’s Holiday Party 2008::

Didn’t want to shoot pictures, but I realized it was just because I was taking in the party. Last track I heard on my way out: Grace Jones – Roll Up To My Bumper.

I’ve been sick for almost two weeks. Since Christmas Eve, I’ve had a weak stomach but that could have been the tamales that had ‘extra’ fat in them. ewww. So, I’ve been mostly in bed during the day, forgetting the time, the dates, and just resting.

I have gone out at night, the miricle of medicine, for work. Too many photographers out there. Shot my last Poplife of the year. Fun gallery. Fun party. All kids. It’s now the new generation, this is their party. I made it to Danny Santiago’s holiday party, I loved it. Took my fierce cousin, who’s amazing. Still needs to grow into her tranny self. I pray.

Pictures on Flickr and on the site.

Tuesday, December 2nd:

Woke up early, excited and ready to shoot.

::rows 1 and 2::
First stop: Photo Opt and brunch with the renowned visionary artist, Emeshel, Europe’s leading designer of luxury crystal and glass sculptures and now with her version of sex in a bottle. I wanted to see Grace Jones scream “that’s the essences of sex…” wearing her pvc outfit and her blond ponytail. One can only dream. Emeshel was poised and sweet.

I enjoyed my tasty brunch staring at the gallery where David Lachapelle would be that night. Then off to Bridge Art Fair in Wynwood.

::remiaining rows::

Art outside of Bridge. The weather was amazing so it all felt good.

I was ready for In Fashion Photo, but it was too early, so we went in for a sneak peak. Since we’d be back, we decided to go over to Photo Miami, I was not ready to walk that fair, just to pick up my passes. Design Miami looked like a party and looked really cool from outside, so it was time to get in. So we did. Cool art: the gorgeous Swarovski Crystal work by Ross Lovegrove. GORGEOUS. The crowd was a nice mix of artsy people, I ran into some of my international friends, but after a couple of glasses of the bubbly, we headed over to In Photo to see if they were ready. They were, but the place was full of paparazzi. Eww. I took myself over to David Lachapelle’s exhibit.

Ran into Naomi, found and shot David (he signed our Naomi book), ran into Leo from The Brand and went back to catch Naomi at In Fashion Photo. We did our remaining walk of all the gorgeous pictures, but ended our night with some woman being utterly and completely rude to us for no reason. You know who you are. Tisk tisk.

December 5, 2008

Morning was chill. I had lunch with mom who was in town and then the sun set.

::row 1 & 2::
A Scion art show on the roof top of Raleigh Hotel, more celebs floating around, but that was only for a bit. We broke and walked a bit to check out the other shows.

::row 3 & 4::
One of the hardest parties to get into, but not much was going on inside.

::remaining rows::
Walking over to Karu for some punk show stopped by Vagabond/PS14 block to see the LiteBrite art. More marketing. I though I was going to end my night early…but Spiderpussy had other intentions. Ended after 2 am with Adult. playing an amazing set!

December 3, 2008

::row 1 & 2::
Brunch at Art Basel, fabulous internationals.

::rows 3 to 8::
At Scope and Asia Art. No, I did not do the bounce house.

::row9::
Driving home from Wynwood and at night a quick stop to see Kelly Klein. Hasn’t aged.

::remaining rows::
The Ikepod Ikedome. Cool marketing space for expensive watches.  Then a walk over to Art Center for the opening night of Kaiju Monster Invasion: Miami Beach. Lots of celebrities there. I had a good time. And instead being one of the few to be in the presence of the legendary GRACE JONES at Florida Room, I was on the beach for Yelle.

December 4th, 2008

::rows 1 -5::
Brunch and up to the rooftop of Gansevoort’s Plung for the open air, relaxing space made by Surface magazine. No cocktails for me and off to Art Basel.

::remaining rows::
Did a stop by to Omni art space then to The Ritz for an event with Miami.com for the Masters’ Mystery Art Show.

Saturday, December 6, 2008

Brunch with a side order of headache and tired.

::row 1 – 3::
But since there was no MAJOR event, we drove around capturing people working on the walls of Miami. Then back to Art Asia for an evening bite and Photo Miami where we found the die cut vinyl. Loved that. Each piece was priced at $700. Walking back to the car, we both loved the neon quote: “When life gives you lemonade, add vodka”.

::row 4::
Glass making and porcelain rocks priced at $30,000 each. I tried to spread the rumor they were alien eggs.

::rows 4 – 10::
at Ginza Tropicalia. Met a graffiti writer/artist from Japan another from Brazil.

::remaining rows::
55th Street Station with the girls. Miss Lady Keir was there and the nostalgia from HS came back. I should have worn my Peter Fox shoes.
